Let me paint you this picture:
Sbs Transit bus service number 166 from KK Hospital (where i boarded) to Thomson Plaza (where i alighted).
An uncle is listening to his coolio sony ericsson and is seated just at the exit door. He was seated on the outside of the 2 seats and beside him (i.e. the inner seat) he had given his bag and a plastic bag a comforatble seat too. The bag was no bigger than an a4 sized file and his plastic bag, those tweeny little ones u find.
Well, i boarded the bus at KK hospital after my training. The bus was pretty full, with all the seats taken and about 5 of us standing, including me. i was standing at the exit door.
the next stop someone had to get down and it was a little squeeze for me to let the guy down. the next thing i heard was the uncle saying, “move in lah boy”. i ignored him or at least i appeared to have ignored him. i did so for 2 reasons. first, he didn’t seem to be talking to anyone in particular. i didn’t make any eye contact with him and he said it rather softly. but i knew he was talking about me. secondly, i didn’t feel like complying. i thought he was irritated because my big tennis bag must have nudged him in the process of letting that guy down. but it wasn’t as if i butted him in the face. and anyway was the big bag my fault? haven’t you seen big tennis stars carry big tennis racquet bags because they hit big winners and break their strings big time and thus need a big number of tennis racquets? But since the person who occupied the seat behind him alighted, i decided to take that seat (behind him) to move out of the way and be considerate. afterall, i was blocking the way a little.
the next few stops, i was still in a mood of defiance. then i noticed. i noticed the big fat (yeah right) bags occupying the seat beside him. oh so now the considerate you who had asked the inconsiderate me to move in is now being so considerate by putting your puny little 2 bags on the seat beside you?
one of the stops later, i couldn’t have asked for more. an old man boarded the bus and he moved down the bus and came upon this considerate man. he asked him to remove his bag so that he could sit (the old man asked the considerate man to remove his bag so the old man could sit). well, the considerate man reacted so slowly the old man said nevermind and moved in to stand. me? i realised i should have given up my seat so i could have the last laugh.
well… what can you expect. the next stop, another old man boarded the bus and again, asked to sit on the seat where the considerate man’s bags had occupied. same thing happened, but this time i was fast to give up my seat. i just stood there sniggering to myself. well well well… what do we have… and then i noticed. all the seats on the bus was taken up by people except for his 2 little bags. yes i mean he is the only one who was hogging seats.
and then a blind woman boarded the bus. lucky for him, someone else gave up her seat before the blind could get to him. but that was not it. the next stop, an old woman and 2 old men boarded. someone diagonally in front of this so considerate uncle gave up her seat for the lady. but those 2 old men still did not find a seat and that ever so considerate uncle still had not removed his bags.
just before i alighted somone else just behind that uncle gave up her seat for those old men. and by the time i alighted… his bag was still sitting in luxury. i wanted to give him a smirk just before i alighted, but well, the bus was too full for me to. sad…
so the seemingly considerate uncle who asked me to move in, did not deny his bags the right to have a first class seat, and instead let 4 old men and 1 old lady plus highly possibly 1 blind woman find another seat during the turbulant ride, even though everyone else around him was giving up their right to a firt class seat ticket? that doesn’t seem to add up, does it?
